Family Portrait: Leong Family

The Leongs are beloved friends of ours and we've known each other a long way back from schooling times. To document this part of their life was truly a remarkable experience and a gentle reminder on far we've journeyed along! Here're are some of the memories of that Saturday morning as we join the Leongs and their little bundle of joy, Charlotte in our latest family portrait session. We hope you guys enjoy the photographs just as much as us!

Mother's Day Pop Up Shoot

Wow yesterday was one ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ช day haha. I came home, changed and immediately crawled in to bed and KOed. I was having one of those tension headaches, then I got woken up from my nap because I started becoming really really hungry.

Woke up, had dinner, went for foot reflex ๐Ÿ˜, the hubby came back home so we spent some time together watching soccer and then I tried to fall asleep because I felt really tired but couldn't and ended up waking up to cook myself another dinner ๐Ÿ˜

But as tiring as it was (more tiring then wedding because we had to constantly engage and catch the attention of those adorable little ones who only had 10 mins to be cool with all these new peeps and a camera haha) and I would not really wish to do it again. It was so darn fulfilling and heart warming that...I just might ๐Ÿ˜ย

Let me take you back to yesterday...

If there's a cafe nearby, it's a favourite ritual to grab coffee and some quiet time before I start a long day of photoshoot. As a 100% introvert, I have to put in 200% to help the people I photograph be comfortable and feel at ease and enjoy the moment and even though it doesn't come naturally, I feel it's so important for them to feel comfortable so I really give my all haha, so before and after each session I need to charge up to be able to work at my optimum level ๐Ÿ’ช Coffee helps too ๐Ÿ™Šโ˜•๏ธ ย  ย

Headed up a little earlier to set up my camera and familiarize with the camera settings and also the sets that the MerryLovesWedding team built. This is my favourite one...

Plus I'm so impressed with ShuYing and her team's organization skills. Really so spot on down to the details. This is one of the characteristics of a wedding vendor that you pay for but don't see the "actual product" because everything went so smoothly. ย

They should be a tag that says:
Everything will go smoothly - $$xxx ๐Ÿ˜

At first I was supposed to have a shorter lunch break but thank God for the other kind souls who volunteered or I would not be able to make it through. Vanessa and Angie came to help (and Angela with me in the morn) so I could enjoy a 2 hour lunch break instead of the supposed 30mins. But wow, I felt the 2 hour lunch break wasn't enough ๐Ÿ˜ At first I thought I would be bored but nope!

Swinged back into work mode and then I thought I heard a familiar name being called with a familiar looking person haha but I was starting a session so I thought it was just a coincidence. Turns out it was my wedding couple LingYun and Bernard. It has been about  5 years and I was so happy to see them again but my heart melted even more when I saw their adorable little boy Dominic ๐Ÿ’› There's just something so special and heart warming and fulfilling for me when my couples connect back and I get to see their little babies. It's just extra special, I can't explain it. I'm not a very emotional person (outwardly) but ya wa this makes me so...full hearted!! Haha if that's even a word.

Throwback to #berlingo wedding!

Using this public holiday to give the house a thorough cleaning and fold all the 3 batches of clothes we just left in a corner ๐Ÿ™Š

INSPIRED: China Vogue Fashion Editorial

Stumbled upon this editorial online and I really love it! I love the relaxed and fun vibe it has with the sandals...yup sandals...the way they mix seemingly un-wedding like gowns with bridal accessories, her poses and the dog. Yup because that's what brides do, they walk their dogs before walking down the aisle ;)

Because I kind of stopped blogging for a while and changed websites and stuff I guess there were a lot of shoots that went unblogged. Not sure if people read blogs anymore haha but I'm sure it's a lot easier to see a collection of pictures from a particular wedding day or a shoot this way. So I'll be posting some THROWBACK weddings that were probably shot one or two or even three years back. Hope it helps!

#newadventures

Hello!
So I thought Iโ€™d start blogging again for nicolethen studio.
But seriously where do I start??

Iโ€™ve put off telling this part of my journey for so long that when I have to tell it, itโ€™s way too long. So let me try to summarise it.

NICOLETHEN STUDIO has been around since 2009 (I believe).
I loved my job but then started taking on too much jobs and towards the later part of my photography business, I got sick (autoimmune disease) and burnt out. But I also got married!! And in the last 2 years I decided to venture out and try something new and I joined Love, Bonito as an Artistic Director while picking up one or two photography gigs a month.

In March 2015, I wrapped up my last few weddings and took a sabbatical from NICOLETHEN STUDIO but I was still doing Art Directing at Love, Bonito. Last month, I decided to step down from the role and reignited NICOLETHEN STUDIO and also kick started WUNDER EXPLORE with my husband Ken.

It's been something that we always toyed with the idea for a while and we finally did it!! So now, even though it's called NICOLETHEN STUDIO, it's the two of us. Ken doing the video at a wedding and I doing the photography. The backend stuff of running a business is also the two of us now, which to me is really awesome!! I could not think of a better partner to have.

Ready?
Let's go!

ESTHER & AMOS | WEDDING PART #1

Finally sharing part one of the pictures from Esther & Amos' wedding! Esther & Amos were also part of the bridal party at Shereen & Joshua's wedding and that's when we first met them. When we had the opportunity to document their wedding day, we were honestly so happy because we knew we loved their company :D

VLOG STYLE EXPERIMENTATION
Here's a little video of the gatecrashing segment that's a little different from what we usually do. Sometimes we like to have a little fun with the work we've shot and this one was edited in a more vlog / home video kind of style. Every time we watch this video, we burst out laughing haha, hope you guys enjoy it too!

To the couple who got us hooked to our favourite "cai fan" store, may each day and each year in marriage bear beautiful fruits and loving memories <3
